Retro Cat Integrates Multiple Chainlink Services to Reliably Mint NFTs and Automate Monthly Raffles

Retro Cat is excited to announce that we have integrated Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) to randomize the traits and characteristics of Retro Cat NFTs. We have also integrated Chainlink Keepers to automate monthly raffles for Retro Cat NFT holders.
We selected Chainlink because it’s the most widely used and battle-hardened oracle network in the blockchain industry. The Chainlink Network is a large and ever-growing ecosystem that offers a high level of security and reliability in its oracle services, while also being incredibly cost-effective and easy-to-integrate.
How Retro Cat Uses Chainlink VRF to Generate Random Cat Characteristics
Retro Cats are 10,000 randomly generated funky bundles of love. Retro Cats feature 11 different sets of traits, including 15 breeds of cat, with hundreds of variations and characteristics including common, rare, and super rare.
To generate the random characteristics of Retro Cats, we needed access to a secure random number generator (RNG) that each user can independently verify. However, RNG solutions for smart contracts require several security considerations to prevent tampering and ensure system integrity. For example, RNG solutions derived from blockchain data such as block hashes can be exploited by miners/validators, while RNG solutions derived from off-chain APIs are opaque and do not provide users with definitive proof of process integrity.
Chainlink VRF is a verifiable RNG solution powered by Chainlink oracles. Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. The Retro Cat smart contract will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof, and the cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This provides our users with automated and verifiable assurances directly on-chain that the Retro Cat NFT minting process is provably fair and was not tampered with by the oracle, outside entities, or the Retro Cat team.

How Retro Cat Uses Chainlink Keepers to Automate Monthly Raffle
Retro Cats are available for 0.02 ETH each (plus gas fees) during our presale. Once 5,000 Retro Cats are sold, 48 ETH is going to be deposited into the community wallet that will be used to fund the monthly raffle for Retro Cat holders. Each Retro Cat NFT holder is automatically entered into the raffle, where a winner of 2 ETH is randomly selected at the end of each month.
Once the entire Retro Cat collection is sold, another 48 ETH is going to be deposited to the community wallet, totaling the raffle time to four years. Once you purchase a Retro Cat, no further action is required to enter and win the monthly raffle. Just don’t sell your Retro Cat before the end of the month!
Chainlink Keepers utilize decentralized, low-cost off-chain computation to carefully monitor user-defined conditions and then trigger on-chain functions once these conditions are met. Chainlink Keepers are run by the same professional node operators that secure Chainlink Price Feeds, which currently help secure tens of billions of dollars across DeFi. Chainlink Keepers are used to automatically trigger the monthly raffle and distribute the reward to the winning Retro Cat NFT holder.
Retro Rockers
But wait, there’s more! To celebrate the launch of Retro Cats, we’re also introducing a limited edition NFT collection called Retro Rockers. Each Retro Rocker is hand-drawn, and the imagery is derived from Retro Cats. During the first 30 days of the Retro Cats launch, we’re giving away a Retro Rocker each day to someone who’s purchased a Retro Cat.
We at Retro Cat firmly believe in giving back. For this reason, we’d also like to announce that we’ll be donating a portion of the proceeds—2 ETH—from the Retro Cat sale to charity organizations in Korea and China.
About Chainlink
Chainlink is the industry standard for building, accessing, and selling oracle services needed to power hybrid smart contracts on any blockchain. Chainlink oracle networks provide smart contracts with a way to reliably connect to any external API and leverage secure off-chain computations for enabling feature-rich applications. Chainlink currently secures tens of billions of dollars across DeFi, insurance, gaming, and other major industries, and offers global enterprises and leading data providers a universal gateway to all blockchains.
